Upper Kotmale hydro power plant to be completed in June

(08.05.2012) Ninety six percent of the construction of the Upper Kotmale hydro power plant has been completed. The Upper Kotmale Hydro Power Plant will generate 150 megawatts of electricity. It already generates 75 megawatts and 150 megawatts will be added to the national grid by this June, Power and Energy Ministry sources said. President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Japanese Deputy Prime Minister Katsuya Okada inspected the Upper Kotmale Hydro Power Project on Saturday. The power plant project commenced in 2006 to meet the increasing demand for electricity. The Japanese government provided 37,817 million yen for the project. The Ceylon Electricity Board spent Rs 8,548 million on the project.
