Concept Paper on Trade Mission - June 2014

Trade-Business Delegation from Sri Lanka and Deliberations with the Israel Business Community on 25th -28th of June 2014.

The tremendous success of the Israel Trade Delegation to Sri Lanka in August 2013 with over 21 delegates and of the subsequent delegation to CHOGM on 12th of November 2013, both of which were led by His Excellency Sarath Wijesinghe, resulted in a strong friendship between Israel and Sri Lanka  leading to closer political and economic collaboration between the two nations on many fronts.

It was further reinforced by the success and goodwill created by the Historic Visit of the President of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa and also through his successful meetings with the Legislators and Business Leaders in Israel.

In the aftermath of the Presidential Visit, an unprecedented level of business collaboration emerged between Israel and Sri Lanka on a number of sectors such as Tourism, Dairy, High Tech, Water, Energy, and so on, leading also to one to one contacts between people of the two friendly nations.

Also, it created the opportunity for both Sri Lankan and Israeli governments and business communities in both nations to size up the ‘Potential for Growth’ and the ‘Resources ‘ in both peoples and develop a vision to harness the collective knowledge, skills and resources for the socio-economic betterment of the two allies on the basis of mutual co-operation.
