Deepavali celebrations at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tel Aviv

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Israel celebrated “Deepavali”, the Festival of Lights, for the third consecutive year, at a colourful ceremony at the Embassy premises on Saturday, 21st October 2017. The function was attended by a cross- section of the Sri Lankan community in Israel along with the Embassy staff.

The ceremony was held in keeping with the tradition of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Israel celebrating important religious festivals of the major religions practiced in Sri Lanka.

Ambassador Periyasamy Pillai Selvaraj welcomed the gathering and reiterated the message of peace, prosperity, harmony, victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance that the festival of Deepavali symbolizes.

He said that the participation of the Sri Lankan community in Israel in the festival is a clear indication of the harmony that exists among the Sri Lankans living in Israel.

The beautiful chanting of devotional keerthanas by Mr. Gunavatar Das and his team was very much appreciated by the participants.

Mr. D.A. Eranga Algama, Minister of the Mission delivered the vote of thanks.

The programme ended with a reception hosted by the Embassy to all participants with an array of traditional Hindu foods, sweets and delicious Sri Lankan cuizine.
