Waruna Wilpatha, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Israel

Waruna Wilpatha presented his Letter of Credence to His Excellency Reuven Rivlin, the President of the State of Israel on 21st November 2019 as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the State of Israel.

Prior to being appointed as the Ambassador to Israel, he has held several appointments in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka including Director General/Human Resources & Mission Management, Director General/Economic Affairs & Trade, Director/Consular Affairs, Director/Overseas Administration, Director/United Nations & Multilateral Affairs, Director/Americas, Deputy Chief of Protocol and Assistant Director /Overseas Administration.

Waruna Wilpatha is a career Foreign Service Officer since 1998 and has served as Minister/Deputy Head of Mission of the Sri Lanka High Commission in Ottawa (from June 2014 to September 2017) and as Acting High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Canada (from October 2014 to October 2015). He has also served in Sri Lanka Missions in Havana (Charge d’ Affairs a.i from February 2012- March 2013), Berlin (Counsellor from 2006 to 2009) and Moscow (Second Secretary from 2000 to 2003).

Waruna Wilpatha studied International Relations at University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and has undertaken further studies & training in the USA, Japan and the Netherlands.
