Deepavali celebrations at the Embassy of Sri Lanka

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Israel celebrated “Deepavali”, the Festival of Lights, for the fourth consecutive year, at a colourful ceremony at the Embassy premises on Saturday, 03 November 2018.

A large number of Sri Lankans, irrespective of their religions, gathered to celebrate this holy festival, which signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, hope over despair, defeat of arrogance, evil and cruelty and attainment of wisdom. Ambassador of Nepal to Israel Niranjan Tapa and his spouse also graced this occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Periyasamy Pillai Selvaraj highlighted the importance of Deepavali and went on to say that the celebration of Deeapavali unifies all human beings irrespective of their ethnic, religious, cast and other differences and spreads peace and harmony among all people.

Mr. Gunavatar Das and his team chanted devotional keerthanas which were much appreciated by the participants. He also elaborated on the importance of Deepavali in the perspective of Bhagavad Gita.

The guests also witnessed a Bharatha Nattyam, performed by Ms. Gayathri, a Sri Lankan expatriate.

The staff of the Embassy prepared traditional vegetarian food and served the participants at the end of the celebrations.
